rapport births trust

Rapport births trust! When we build rapport with others, we gain their trust.

We can build rapport by matching others. We can match their body language and voice tonality. Body language is matched for example when we cross our arms when they cross theirs. Voice tonality can be matched when we sync our voices and keep pace with their tempo. When we are in ‘sync’ or congruent with others, they’ll be comfortable with us which form the foundation of trust for the relationships.

Another aspect of matching is how others feel when we interact with them. Some are very kinesthetic ie who feels more when they interact. Use more story telling style of communicating with such people. They like to listen to our stories especially the motivating ones, touching ones and real life experiences.

The main thing to remember in building rapport is to match others’ body language, voice tonality and how they feel. Rapport births Trust!

The fact is all of us are already doing it, for most perhaps unconsciously, and for some quite intuitively. You can now start realizing it, can’t you…

managing emotions

We interact with people in our lives and we constantly deposit and withdraw from each others’ emotional ‘bank account’.

Emotions are strong energy that either make or break us; make our day or dampen it; uplift us or downcast us. And that makes it very important for us all to manage our interactions with others and ultimately emotions.

So how do we do it?

Firstly, we need to match the people we are interacting with. Match them, where appropriate, in terms of their preferences. Then lead them to mutual gains.

Secondly, have a collaborative attitude. A collaborative attitude results only in win-win mutual benefits for each other. Be forgiving when others offended us and move on.

Thirdly, at the end of each interaction, always be the one to deposit into others’ emotional bank account. Let them part ways with you in a positive and memorable state. Then they will look forward to be with you again soon!
